2016 Honda Fit vs 2016 Buick Encore

Thanks to all of the exciting new makeovers and releases over the past model year and upcoming, our favorite subcompact hatchback has seemingly fallen by the way side. But we wanted to breathe new life into by showing you just how impressive it is, so impressive in fact that it can compete with subcompact crossovers, which are supposed to be much bigger and offer much more than a little hatch. With that goal in mind, we’ve decided to compare the 2016 Honda Fit vs 2016 Buick Encore.

Advantages of the 2016 Honda Fit

Let’s start by addressing the tippy top of the table above, which begins with a look at fuel efficiency. Considering Honda is pretty well known for its oft-superior efficiency, it wasn’t much of a surprise to discover that the Fit utilizes 1.7 l/100km less fuel than the Buick Encore. But what did surprise us some is that the much bigger crossover only offers 8 more horsepower than the Honda Fit.

While 8 horsepower wouldn’t be very noticeable in and of itself, the disadvantage is lessened even more by the fact that the Buick Encore weighs 3,237 lbs. That’s 693 lbs. more than the Honda Fit weighs, and the less a vehicle weighs the less power it needs to do some of the same things that bigger cars can. So essentially, even the very small advantage that the Encore had is obliterated by the Honda Fit.

Surely the bigger of the two will be able to make up its losses in terms of space, though, right? Surely the subcompact crossover, meant for carting around groceries and other miscellaneous bits of cargo, will offer more space than a tiny little hatchback? Wrong. With the back seats folded in each vehicle, the 2016 Honda Fit actually offers an extra 4.3 cu. ft. of space to hold whatever cargo it is you need bring along.

So the 2016 Honda Fit is much more efficient, doesn’t sacrifice power to get there, and actually has more room for cargo than a much bigger crossover can offer. If that doesn’t tell you that the Fit is the right vehicle for you, we don’t know what will. If you agree with us, be sure to schedule a test drive right here on our website or by giving us a call.
