2016 Honda Pilot vs 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe

After being completely redesigned for the 2016 model year, the Honda Pilot has rocketed back to the top of its segment, becoming one of the most popular midsize crossovers available. Thanks to an injection of new style with everything right down to the architecture being overhauled, the Pilot is a real competitor, but we thought we’d try to highlight exactly what makes it such a great option aside from simply being more stylish than its previous iterations. With that in mind, we decided to compare the 2016 Honda Pilot vs 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe, one of its biggest segment competitors.

Advantages of the 2016 Honda Pilot

The table above takes a look at specifications from both vehicles, and it shows that the two midsize crossovers are quite comparable to one another. For instance, the first two rows highlight an advantage for each automobile, but neither advantage is substantial enough to blow the other away. While the Honda Pilot offers better fuel efficiency, utilizing 0.7 l/100km less fuel per 100 kilometres doesn’t equate to any major financial savings. On the flip side, the Hyundai Santa Fe generates an extra 10 horsepower, but that isn’t exactly going to be extremely noticeable.

What is noticeable, however, is the fact that the Honda Pilot offers more space for both people and luggage – or whatever it is you need to bring along with you. Behind the back seat of the Pilot rests 18.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which is 5 cu. ft. more than the Santa Fe offers. And in the cabin as a whole, the Honda crossover provides an extra 11.1 cu. ft. of space for you and your passengers to stretch out and get comfortable in, especially nice for long road trips or drives to Grandma’s.

Even with the slight deficit in power, and only having a minor advantage in fuel efficiency, we think that the extra space cargo and passengers makes the 2016 Honda Pilot the clear winner in this case.
