2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 Chevy Colorado
Currently, if someone were to state that the Chevy Colorado was the most popular midsize truck on the market, it would be hard to argue. Having just be reintroduced for the 2015 model year, it is still fresh in everyone’s minds, and offers the best fuel efficiency in the segment. However, we believe the unique features found in the Ridgeline will drum up even more attention, and if Honda pulls through on its goals we believe the next-generation midsize truck will take over the segment. Until then, we thought we’d make an early comparison between the 2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 Chevy Colorado by looking at some of the details we do already have our hands on.
Advantages of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline
As we mentioned, Honda has stated they are targeting best-in-class fuel efficiency for the 2017 Honda Ridgeline, both on the highway and through the city. The 2016 Chevy Colorado will be the truck to beat, as it achieves a combined efficiency of 10.0 l/100km. Plus, it has a Duramax Diesel engine option that lowers that number even further. However, whether the Ridgeline manages to top the Colorado or not, we do believe Honda’s midsize truck will beat the Chevy in terms of standard power.
How do we figure that? By taking a look at the standard engines, which in the 2017 Ridgeline will be a 3.5L V6. The Colorado on the other hand comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. So while one engine may drop the efficiency, and another may add a big boost to power, when it comes to the standard engine we believe the Ridgeline will stand tall above the 2016 Colorado.
While both trucks offer the same standard transmission, we do know one other area the Ridgeline will certainly trump the Colorado, and that’s in flat-bed space. Honda has already confirmed that the 2017 Honda Ridgeline will offer 48” of space between the wheel arches, more than any other truck in the segment. As more information becomes available, we’ll be certain to publish it here on our website or blog, so make sure to keep checking out Wheaton Honda!
