2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 Ford F-150

The hottest news currently in the Honda world is obviously the all-new, next-generation 2017 Honda Ridgeline. While the Ridgeline is and always has been a midsize truck, the innovations that have become synonymous with the truck have made it a competitor against trucks off all shapes and sizes. That’s precisely why we thought we’d take an early look at how it will fare against the most popular truck in the country, by comparing the 2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 Ford F-150.

Not many specifications have been released as of yet about our new favorite truck, including the ones we normally look at in comparisons, so we thought we’d take a look at a few of the tidbits we do already know and see how the newest midsize to grace the market would fare against the powerhouse.

Advantages of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

As you can see by looking at the table above, the two trucks are actually quite comparable. They both house 3.5L V6 engines beneath their hoods and run with 6-speed automatic transmissions. The one area we are pretty certain the Ridgeline will trump the F-150 in is fuel efficiency, as while the exact numbers haven’t yet been announced we know that Honda is targeting best-in-class fuel economy with the Ridgeline. Considering the midsize class is known for being more efficient as a whole, we feel it’s safe to assume the Ridgeline will achieve numbers quite a bit lower than the F-150’s combined 10.9 l/100km.

One specification that Honda has been touting is the fact that the Honda Ridgeline will have the widest flat bed space in its segment, with 48 inches between each wheelhouse. Unfortunately full-size trucks are obviously bigger, and thus the F-150 does have a wider flat bed space; however, only being 2.6-inches narrower makes us feel pretty good about the 2017 Honda Ridgeline!
