2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 GMC Canyon
Perhaps one of the most popular midsize trucks on the market right now is the 2016 GMC Canyon, but we believe the all-new, next-generation 2017 Honda Ridgeline will be able to blow it right out of the water once it is released later this year. As it stands, very few specifications have been released about the upcoming Ridgeline, but we wanted to take an early look at how the two might fare by comparing what we do know about the two models. So we decided to pit the 2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 GMC Canyon, to see exactly how they might stand.
Advantages of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline
Unfortunately – as we mentioned – very little has been announced as of yet, including all of the specifications we normally look at in these comparisons. So we decided to get a little crafty in our early comparison between the two trucks, as you can tell by glancing at the table above. Looking at the first row on the table, we think it’s safe to assume the Ridgeline will have greater standard power, as it will be powered by a 3.5L V6 engine rather than the Canyon’s smaller 4-cylinder engine. As for transmission, they’re evenly matched with each utilizing a 6-speed automatic.
Where it might get interested is in terms of fuel efficiency. Currently, the GMC Canyon is one of the most efficient trucks in the segment, and when equipped with its Duramax diesel engine it is the most efficient. But Honda has voiced the fact that it plans to target best-in-class fuel economy, meaning the Ridgeline might just edge it out next model year.
One area we know for certain the 2017 Honda Ridgeline will trump its segment rival is in flat bed space. The Ridgeline will offer the widest amount of space between both wheelhouses in the segment, making it easier to cart around bigger objects like plywood.
