2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 Nissan Frontier

2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 Nissan Frontier

Honda joined the truck game a little late, and it might still be trying to find its footing, but we believe the next-generation Ridgeline will do that for them. Even though a truck like the Nissan Frontier has been around a decade longer, we still believe the Ridgeline will have its advantages as soon as it becomes available. Right now, we have very little information about the upcoming second-generation midsize truck, but we wanted to get a head start at comparing it to the competition, so we decided to compare the 2017 Honda Ridgeline vs 2016 Nissan Frontier anyway, by looking at the information we do have readily available.

Advantages of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Unlike other trucks we’ve looked at, the Nissan Frontier may be able to give the Ridgeline a run for its money in terms of standard power. The 2017 Honda Ridgeline offers a standard 3.5L V6 engine, but the 2016 Frontier fires back with a 4.0L V6. That doesn’t mean anything for certain, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the bigger engine offers more power. However, it will likely also be heavier than the Ridgeline, so that may even things out.

Moving onto the transmission, whether or not it is an advantage remains up to you, as the Frontier comes with a standard 6-speed manual transmission while the Ridgeline offers a standard 6-speed automatic. If you can’t drive manual, you don’t have to pay extra for the automatic on the Ridgeline, but if you prefer manual the Frontier would be the obvious choice.

Additionally, we know that the 2017 Honda Ridgeline will be targeting the best-in-class fuel efficiency, and it won’t be tough to beat the Frontier at 12.0 l/100km combined. On top of that, we know that the Ridgeline has at least one confirmed advantage, as the new truck will offer a 48” flat bed space, more than any other midsize truck available. We’ll continue to update you all on the details of the next-generation 2017 Honda Ridgeline as more details become available, so be sure to stay tuned here at Wheaton Honda.
