Exchanging gifts with loved ones is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the holidays, but unfortunately, many Edmonton individuals don’t have the means to purchase gifts for their kids during the holidays. Adopt-a-Teen is a program designed to ensure the over 8,600 teens in the Edmonton have a gift to open during the holidays.
Adopt-a-Teen has already distributed 8,500 $50 Walmart gift cards, which have been gratefully received by families in need. But providing for families and teens in need comes at a cost. Currently, Adopt-a-Teen needs to raise $25,000 to cover the expense of providing for the less fortunate this holiday season.
As of Dec. 24, Adopt-a-Teen still has 500 teens to provide for, and with your help, the program can ensure every teen has a memorable holiday. For just $50, you can help ensure every teen between the ages of 13 and 17 has an enjoyable holiday.
This is growing problem for charities during the holidays as cost and demand continues to rise. The need for donations isn’t limited to Adopt-a-Teen, however. The Christmas Bureau and Edmonton Food Bank both estimate to have only 60 percent of what they need to provide their respective services.
The Edmonton community is truly a great place to live, and it’s important we continue to help those in need when we can. Embrace the season of giving and donate to Adopt-a-Teen or another Edmonton charity to help everyone have a happy holiday.
