When you start driving your Honda, you probably no longer even realize the auto lock setting unless something out of the ordinary happens. Although it may no longer register in your mind, the auto lock and unlock settings on your Honda are great safety features that prevent passengers from intentionally or unintentionally opening doors while the car is in motion.
By default, Honda vehicles equipped with the Auto Lock and Unlock setting will lock all doors and the tailgate when the vehicle reaches approximately 15 kph. Similarly, the driver’s door will automatically unlock when the vehicle is put into park, while the rest of the doors will remain locked until the driver or passenger opens them using the master locks.
While these are the default settings, they can be quickly and easily changed to better accommodate your personal preferences. To help you through this process, we’ll explain how to program and adjust the auto lock and unlock settings on a Honda Odyssey, however the process is similar in each Honda vehicle.
If you have an Odyssey Touring trim, this can easily be done by using the MID interface. Simply navigate to Settings > Vehicle Settings > Door Setup > Auto Door Lock/Auto Door Unlock then choose the settings you desire. When you’re done, press Back to return to the menu.
If you do not have the MID interface, you’ll need to go through a little more intricate process, which is outlined in your owner’s manual. Take a look below to see how to program and adjust the Auto Lock and Unlock settings in your Honda Odyssey without the MID system.
How To Turn Off Auto Lock on a Honda Odyssey
1. With the Driver’s side door open, shift into Park and turn the ignition to the On (II) position
2. On the master locks, press and hold the lock switch for about 5 seconds. During that time, you should hear two clicks.
3. Within 5 seconds of hearing those clicks, turn the ignition to the lock position.
How To Turn Off Auto Unlock on a Honda Odyssey
Follow the same steps listed above, but press the unlock side of the control rather than the lock side.
There are more options than the ones you see above, but these are the most commonly requested options. Please refer to your owner’s manual to find step-by-step instructions to adjust your Odyssey’s auto lock and unlock features.
