Which vehicle won the 2016 Green SUV of the Year?

2016 Honda HR-V is the Green SUV of the Year

The idea of being green is becoming more and more popular every year, and it has certainly begun to have an impact on the automotive market. Hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles even the hydrogen future, everything seems to be turning toward more efficient options than gasoline, and we’re certainly okay with that. It’s become such a big deal, that there are even “Green” awards being handed out that have just as much effect on the marketplace as other big name awards, and the 2016 Honda HR-V is the Green SUV of the Year for 2016, accord to the Green Car Journal.

It might seem surprising that a regular, gasoline-powered vehicle would win the 2016 Green SUV of the Year award. While SUVs aren’t exactly the most efficient vehicles to begin with, there are hybrid and electric crossovers popping up all over the market. Even still, the 2016 Honda HR-V is a surprisingly efficient vehicle in comparison. As a subcompact crossover, it doesn’t have quite as much weight to haul around, making it more efficient than some of its bigger cousins, which is definitely a plus.

Why should I purchase a 2016 Honda HR-V?

“The Honda HR-V is a truly unique new subcompact crossover, delivering the space, utility, comfort and feature content of a larger vehicle, with the sporty driving dynamics and class-leading fuel economy ratings on par with a small car,” stated the Executive Vice President of Auto Sales for American Honda, John Mendel. The brand-new Honda HR-V achieves 6.7 l/100km highway fuel efficiency, which is better than some sedans. So we definitely think it has what it takes to be recognized as one of the greenest vehicles available this year.

But don’t take our word for it, the editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, Ron Cogan, stated that “with its active styling, smart features, and fuel economy leadership, the 2016 Honda HR-V gives car buyers an entirely new option in the small SUV category.” If you think you might be interested in picking up a 2016 Green SUV of the Year for yourself, be sure to schedule a test drive here on our website, or give us a call at the sales desk!
