Since we stopped posting content on the Drive Go blog, we’ve been bringing over a few of our favorite weekly blogs to help you stay informed. Every Tuesday here at Wheaton Honda, we’ll be explaining one of the newer features or technologies found in your vehicle, in order to help you better understand what they are and how they work. Today, we’re going to take a look at Adaptive Cruise Control, a newer technology that makes your cruise control function even smarter, and work even better.

How does Adaptive Cruise Control work?
This day and age, almost every vehicle has standard cruise control installed, so chances are you know how to use it. When driving on the highway or any extended trip where the speed limit isn’t going to change much, you can set cruise control to keep your speed so that you’re not constantly speeding up and slowing down, which lowers fuel efficiency and wastes gasoline. Adaptive Cruise Control takes things a step further, allowing you not only to set your desired speed but also your desired following distance from any vehicle that might be in front of you.
The system will then maintain the speed that you set, just like regular cruise control, but if a vehicle is moving slower in front of you and you don’t have time or the ability to get over into another lane, then Adaptive Cruise Control will initiate and slow you down to maintain your set following distance. It utilizes a system of radars and cameras to operate, thus not only making your drive more enjoyable, but also delivering a bit of confidence in the safety department as well.

Otherwise, if you have any specific questions about the technology left unanswered here, you can feel free to give us a call at the Go Toyota on the Trail sales desk. We can also help you figure out which Honda vehicles have the program installed or available.
