Transmission Options in the upcoming 2017 Civic Hatchback

Will the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback get a Manual Transmission?

There’s a pretty good chance you’ve never driven a stick-shift vehicle. While there are plenty of stick cars out on the road and plenty of drivers to drive them, most people today stick with automatic transmissions from the time they first begin learning to drive. And no matter what those stick shifters say, there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you want the best performance experience out of your vehicle, then it might be time to learn how stick shift works, because a manual transmission – which is the proper term for a stick shift – is the best way to get it.

This is precisely why many Honda Civic enthusiasts and hot-hatch enthusiasts alike have been asking the question: will the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback get a manual transmission? And the answer is quite simply: yes. At the debut of the brand-new Civic Hatchback Prototype in New York, Jeff Conrad – who is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Honda division – informed us that its 1.5L turbocharged powertrain could be tethered to a 6-speed transmission.

“The Civic Hatchback wraps the 10-generation Civic platform and five-door hatchback utility in emotional, Euro-inspired styling. Offered with the first application of the 1.5-liter turbo engine paired with a manual transmission, this sportiest Civic to date will attract a whole new set of enthusiasts buyers to the model and Honda brand.”

Other 10th Generation Civic Transmission Options

The great news is that Honda decided not to stop there. Not only will next year’s brand-new hot hatch be offered in a 6-speed manual transmission, but the previously released 2016 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe will also have the option available when opting for the turbocharged engine starting this fall. Every model comes equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission if not opting for the manual transmission.

If you have any questions about what will or won’t be offered on the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback or any of the other models, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We can’t wait to help you find your perfect new vehicle.
