Controlled Braking and Skidding
The 2016 Odyssey employs a combination of the 4-Wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), which optimizes braking power based on the weight distribution inside the vehicle. This comes standard on all models.
Another feature that is helpful to mitigate fish-tailing and skidding is the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). It is designed to correct oversteering and the built-in traction control diminishes skidding. This is also a standard feature.
Driver Assistance Features
Not only does this minivan come with integrated turn signals in the mirrors, it also has several other features to help the driver travel safely: blind spot monitor and lane departure warning.
Blind Spot Monitoring system – this system comes standard and uses indicator lights inside the cabin to notify you of vehicles entering the blind spot on either side of the car.
Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system – Is an available feature that alerts the driver if the vehicle starts to drift into the next lane and you don’t have your turn indicator on.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system – Is another available feature that determines the presence of moving vehicles in front of you and gives an audible warning if you are approaching too quickly.
HondaLink Assist – is an Automatic Emergency Response System. This system is an available feature. It is only activated if the air bags deploy. If this occurs, the Display Audio system will automatically place a call to an operator who will forward your location to first responders. It doesn’t require a subscription and works with any Bluetooth-compatible phone, as long as there is reception.
It’s easy to see how combination of standard and available features gave the 2016 Honda Odyssey a near-perfect safety score.
