What is Apple CarPlay?
For this week’s How’s This Work, we thought we’d look at one of the most exciting features being talked about across the industry for the past couple of years. One of the biggest technology aspects in the automotive market today is connectivity, and very few features out there connect you and your car to the outside world as well as Apple CarPlay. While it’s not yet available on all vehicles in the lineup, we imagine it will be either in 2017 or 2018, as its popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

Apple CarPlay is a feature that is only compatible with iPhone users, so if you’re a Honda driver and an Apple iPhone enthusiast, this is the perfect app for you. It essentially turns your infotainment system into an iPhone, allowing you to do things like get directions, make calls and even send or receive text messages right on your display audio screen, or just by using your voice through Siri Eyes Free.
How does Apple CarPlay work?
Currently, Apple CarPlay is only available on 2016 Honda Accord and Civic models, as well as the 2017 Ridgeline. If you own one of these vehicles, you can pair your Apple iPhone device to your vehicle and then utilize it on the go via your display audio touchscreen. Currently, the iPhone apps supported by Apple CarPlay include Phone, messages, Maps, Music and a host of third party applications designed just for use with the system.
The video below gives you a better idea of what exactly Apple CarPlay is and, of course, how it works. If you have any questions about the systems’ availability or how to use it feel free to give us a call here at the sales desk and we’d be glad to help as best we can.
