What is the ECON Button?
After a long run of general features available from a multitude of manufacturers, we wanted to look at a Honda-specific feature for this week’s How’s This Work. With that in mind, we decided to look at something we can’t believe it took this long to highlight, the ECON Button. A feature found in several vehicles across the Honda lineup, the ECON Button is great for efficiency-minded drivers.

How does the ECON Button work?
The ECON Button is an efficiency-enhancing feature that works just as it sounds, with the press of a button. A fairly large, green button found on your dashboard will have the word ECON written above it, and as you probably could have guessed, that’s the ECON Button. By pressing it, your vehicle will automatically adjust a few settings inside the vehicle to enhance efficiency at the sacrifice of performance.
The changes include modifications to the throttle, meaning acceleration won’t be quite as quick, a reduction in air conditioning blower speed alongside an increase in recirculation, and optimizes your continuously variable transmission to operate more efficiently than normal. These changes will increase efficiency, but will also have drawbacks of their own. Your vehicle’s performance won’t be quite as enjoyable as normal, and the air conditioning won’t make the cabin quite as comfortable as you’re used to.
But if you’re alright with those sacrifices, then the ECON Button is an excellent way to save some money. You can use it as often or as little as you like, but you will save some pocket change the more you use it.
