What is Eco Assist?
A couple of weeks ago, we took a close look at the ECON Button. For this week’s How’s This Work, we’re going to take a look at a technology that ties right into that: Eco Assist. The Eco Assist System doesn’t exactly adjust thing for you automatically like triggering the ECON Button does, but rather shows you how efficient your driving style is and nudges you back in the right direction. Read on to find out what we mean, and how exactly Eco Assist helps you.
[ LAST WEEK: What is the Anti-Lock Braking System? ]
How does the Eco Assist System work?
Technically, the ECON Button is a part of the Eco Assist System. As we mentioned last week, pressing the ECON Button will automatically adjust certain aspects of your vehicle for optimum fuel efficiency. But there is another part to the Eco Assist System that works both by itself and in conjunction with the ECON Button. It’s called the Ambient Meter.
The Ambient Meter is comprised of color-coded bars on either side of the speedometer. These bars will change color as you drive, depending on your specific driving style and how you’re operating both pedals. If you’re using the brakes and accelerator like you should, then the bars will light up green. If you’re using them a bit carelessly, then the color will change to a much lighter green color. But once you start getting aggressive with your acceleration and deceleration, then the bars will turn white and you’ll know that you’re driving very inefficiently.
