Rumors concerning the Honda Civic Type-R

2017 Honda Civic Type-R Canadian Release Date

Since the news first broke about the next-generation Honda Civic, it’s been at the forefront of our thoughts. Before it was redesigned, the Honda Civic had been the best-selling passenger car in the country for seventeen years in a row, and the remodel would only build upon those impressive specs and features that Canadians already fell in love with. But perhaps what we were even more excited about, was the promise of the popular European Honda Civic Type-R finally making its way across the pond. Now? We simply cannot wait for the 2017 Honda Civic Type-R Canadian release date.

Civic Type-R Rumors & Speculation

Outside of the fact that it will indeed be hitting showrooms sometime in the 2017 calendar year – not model year – not much is known about the all-new 2017 Honda Civic Type-R that will debut in North America. We can look at the European model that has been popular for years, but who’s to say what will stay the same and what will change from that model? So we’ve combed through some rumors and speculation about the model, and thought we’d touch on what we expect the new Type-R to offer.

For starters, while we know it will be released sometime in 2017, we don’t actually know what model year will be attached. We expect it could be 2017, as we’ve referred to it here, but it could just as easily be the 2018 Honda Civic Type-R instead. Beyond that, the biggest rumors have circulated around what type of engine it will offer. We expect it will be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine, probably a V6, and could deliver upwards of 340 horsepower – which is unheard of in a Canadian Honda Civic.

From camouflaged spy photos circulating the internet, we also suspect that the Type-R will deliver some sort of extra cooling system, perhaps an oil cooler, in addition to the turbo intercooler. Hopefully we’ll see some finalized images of the all-new Type-R by the end of the year, but until then you can see what the current European-spec model looks like below.
