What is an In-Bed Trunk?

What is an In-Bed Trunk?

It’s Tuesday again, which means it’s time for another edition of How’s This Work. This week, we’re taking a look at something that is a little specific not just to the Honda brand but to one vehicle in particular: the 2017 Honda Ridgeline’s in-bed trunk. At this moment in time, the in-bed trunk is exclusive to the Honda Ridgeline as it’s a segment first. We imagine more brands will pick up the idea in years to come, but for now we’re proud to say we offer the only vehicle with the feature.

2017 Honda Ridgeline In-Bed Trunk

The in-bed trunk is just one of several features that make the Ridgeline’s trunk innovative and unique, but it’s perhaps our favorite. At 7.3 cubic feet, it’s almost as big a subcompact sedan’s trunk. But it’s much more versatile than a sedan trunk, for multiple reasons. For starters, its hidden in the trunk bed, so no one will know that it’s there unless they’re aware that Ridgelines have trunks in the bed.

But even if someone did know it was there, the in-bed trunk is lockable so you can hide valuables in it and feel completely confident that they’ll still be there when you get back. Finally, and perhaps one of the coolest abilities of the Ridgeline’s in-bed trunk, is that you can use it as a cooler. Load up the trunk with ice and fill it with sodas, and you’ll be able to pop the drain plug later to empty it out.

If you’re interested in a 2017 Honda Ridgeline of your own, be sure to schedule a test drive right here on our website.
