With a new model year upon us, we figured it was time to start showing you how our vehicles measure up to some of their biggest competitors once again. So, with that in mind, we decided to start with our most popular vehicle and its most popular rival, by pitting the 2019 Honda Civic Sedan vs 2019 Toyota Corolla.

Advantages of the 2019 Civic Sedan

As you can see from just a glance at the table above, the two vehicles are quite comparable to one another, but each has its clear advantages. Let’s work our way through the table row by row to take a closer look at how they differ. We kicked things off with performance in the first row, more specifically highlighting each sedan’s horsepower. The Civic Sedan generates an extra 26 horsepower more than the Corolla. That’s not a mind-blowing difference but it certainly gives the Civic an edge and will help it deliver a slightly more enjoyable experience behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, the Corolla does fire back in the second row with an advantage of its own. It’s no secret that Toyota knows what it’s doing when it comes to fuel efficiency, having created the first-ever hybrid vehicle, so perhaps its no surprise that the Corolla delivers slightly superior fuel efficiency to the Civic Sedan. Much like the horsepower difference, 0.7 l/100km isn’t a massive difference, but it will save you some pocket change at the pump.

The Civic Sedan has one more advantage shown in the third row, as it offers an extra 2.1 cubic feet of space in its trunk. That’s actually a pretty big difference, giving you enough room to perhaps fit a whole extra backpack or something of the sort. The fourth row shows that both cars offer seating for up to five.
