2019 Honda Odyssey vs 2019 Toyota Sienna

2019 Honda Odyssey vs 2019 Toyota Sienna

Now that we’re officially in the new 2019 model year, we’ve begun comparing many of our models against some of their biggest competitors to help you narrow down your decision making. If you’re in the market for a new minivan, then you’ve probably stumbled across one of the oldest rivalries in the industry: the 2019 Honda Odyssey vs 2019 Toyota Sienna. We’ve got you covered.

2019 Honda Odyssey Vs 2019 Toyota Sienna
12.4 l/100km City Fuel Efficiency 12.4 l/100km
8.4 l/100km Highway Fuel Efficiency 8.7 l/100km
280 HP Horsepower 296 HP
4,354 lbs. Curb Weight 4,430 lbs.

Advantages of the 2019 Odyssey

It doesn’t take long to realize, from looking at the table above, that these two minivans are extremely similar to one another. The first row kicks things off showing that the two minivans have identical fuel efficiency when driving through urban roads, while the second row highlights the fact that the Odyssey does utilize 0.3 litres less fuel to drive the same 100 kilometres on the highway. While that’s not a massive difference, it does mean Odyssey drivers will save a bit of change at the pump in the long run if you drive on the highway quite often.

The third row shows that the Toyota Sienna is superior when it comes to performance, but that might not really be the case as the Odyssey actually weighs a bit less than its rival. The Sienna generates an extra 16 horsepower, which is about as big an advantage as the Odyssey’s highway efficiency. But the advantage gets cut down a bit by the fact that the Odyssey weighs 76 pounds less than the Sienna, meaning it needs less power to do the same things.

The Odyssey does have some other advantages outside of the table, such as its standard 9-speed automatic transmission as opposed to the Sienna’s 8-speed, or its one-inch larger tires at 18” versus the Toyota’s 17”.
