2019 Honda Ridgeline vs 2019 Toyota Tacoma

2019 Honda Ridgeline vs 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Since the Honda Ridgeline made its triumphant return just a couple of years ago, it has certainly established itself as an integral part to the midsize truck segment. We missed it while it was gone, and it has reminded us every year since exactly why we did. Now that it continues to build its reputation as a sleek, versatile pickup truck filled with utility, we thought we’d see how it measures up to another stalwart mainstay of the segment by pitting the 2019 Honda Ridgeline vs 2019 Toyota Tacoma in a side-by-side comparison to see how they differ.

2019 Honda Ridgeline Vs 2019 Toyota Tacoma
280 HP Horsepower 159 HP
1,530 lbs. Max Payload 1,500 lbs.
3,500 lbs. Max Towing Capacity 3,500 lbs.
5 Seating Capacity 4

Advantages of the 2019 Ridgeline

The two trucks are incredibly comparable to one another (though I don’t think there’s any arguing that the Ridgeline has the superior truck bed and tailgate); however, the table that we’ve compiled above shows that the Ridgeline certainly has some areas in which it surpasses the Tacoma. While the Tacoma is available in a multitude of configurations, the base trim level’s engine only generates 159 horsepower. The Ridgeline has a few trim levels of its own, but each of them – even the most inexpensive base level – is powered by an engine that generates 280 HP. That’s quite a difference in power that secures the Ridgeline a heavy lead.

The second and third rows look at the specifications that have to do with hauling things around, firstly in terms of the truck bed’s strength and secondly in terms of extra weight attached to the back. When it comes to payload, the Ridgeline can accommodate 30 pounds more weight than the base Tacoma. As for towing capacity, both base level trucks max out at 3,500 lbs.

One final advantage for the Ridgeline is that the base level Tacoma only has seating for four. While there are other trims that offer more seating, once again the base level Ridgeline is superior to its counterpart.
