2019 Honda HR-V Safety Ratings & Features

2019 Honda HR-V Exterior Driver Side Rear Profile

A lot of current-model-year vehicles that haven’t already been put to the test are currently finishing up their time with entities like the IIHS, or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, down in the United States. One vehicle that recently got put through the battery of tests by the IIHS was the Honda HR-V as it was one of the last vehicles to roll off the line for the 2019 model year. We thought we’d detail the safety ratings it earned from the IIHS and the NHTSA while highlighting some of its safety features.

IIHS Rating

From the IIHS, the 2019 Honda HR-V has earned the second-highest rating possible, the TOP SAFETY PICK, thanks to a Good rating in all six crashworthiness tests and a Superior rating for the CMBS that Honda Sensing offers. It’s the sixth 2019 Honda model to earn TSP or TSP+.

NHTSA Rating

From the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2019 HR-V earned a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score, like all of the other Honda models to be fully tested for the current model year. That’s huge!

Safety Features

These scores are earned thanks in part to a host of safety features, including, of course, those that come with Honda Sensing. Some of the features include the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control and multi-element LED headlights (which received an Acceptable rating from IIHS).

Of course, there are plenty of other safety features often overlooked in the HR-V. The ACE body structure certainly helps it earn such high crashworthiness scores, as do things like seatbelts, airbags and traction control.
