2020 Honda Passport for sale in Edmonton, Alberta
If the CR-V is a little too small for what you need but you feel the Pilot is a little bigger than you really want to go, Honda has now slotted a fabulous model in between called the Passport. The 2020 Honda Passport is a two-row midsize crossover SUV, so the lack of a third-row seat guarantees plenty of room for five people and plenty of cargo.
As well as doing everything you want and need from an SUV in this class, the Pilot even has some pretty decent off-road chops so a trip out to Prairie Creek, Lost Knife Trail or Ruby Falls is well within the Pilot's repertoire.
Stylish without being outlandish
Some relatively recent Japanese additions to the SUV market have been styled in a way that could easily be considered a little polarising for some tastes, but the 2020 Pilot strikes a nice balance between modern and relatively traditional crossover styling. If you like the way the larger Honda Pilot looks but you want something a little more compact, the Passport has been designed with you very much in mind. As the Passport is only about 30cm shorter than the Pilot but doesn’t bother with a third-row seat, there's a ton of space inside for up to five people and the gear they inevitably bring with them. The rear doors open wide to make access easier even for those with mobility issues, and once you’re inside you'll love the comfort and quality this spacious interior delivers, no matter which seat you’re sat in.
Powerful, capable and efficient
Every version of the 2020 Honda Passport comes with the same engine, but the size and weight of this vehicle probably warrants it's traditional V-6 rather than a turbo-four at this point. Honda has gone with a 3.5-litre V-6 for the Passport that develops 280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque, which then sends its power to all four of its wheels through a smooth nine-speed automatic transmission. In the US you can get a front-drive version of the Passport, but it's probably fair to say the winter weather here in Edmonton makes all-wheel-drive a necessity and Honda knows this so all Passport models are standard all-wheel-drive.
The Passport's transmission features Snow, Sand, Mud, and Normal settings that automatically adjust and control controls shift behaviour, traction control, and throttle for that particular type of terrain. Even with the all-wheel-drive system, the Passport isn’t going to climb mountains or cross boulder-covered riverbeds, but it's a much more capable vehicle when the pavement runs out than many of its current rivals.
All versions of the 2020 Passport return fuel economy ratings of 12.5 L/100km in the city, 9.8 L/100km on the highway and 11.3 L/100km combined.
Everything you need is here
There are just three trim levels to choose from when you're looking to buy a new Honda Passport, which start with the Sport and then go to the EX-L and the range-topping Touring trim level. The US version of the Passport Sport could be said to be missing a few features a lot of people would like to have standard and therefore be a little basic, but here in Canada, it's a different matter.
As well as standard all-wheel-drive, the Passport Sport comes with a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats and heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, 20-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lights, tri-zone automatic climate control, a multi-angle rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and lots of active and passive safety features.
Standard safety features across the lineup include forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, hill-start-assist, the HondaLink Assist Automatic Emergency Response System and lots more.
