2016 Honda Accord vs 2016 Kia Optima
Even though the big news leading into the 2016 model year was Honda’s excellent lineup of utility vehicles, its two most popular cars were made over as well. The Civic got a full redesign, while the Accord got refreshed in a stylish way. Now sportier than ever, we thought we’d highlight what makes the midsize sedan such a popular choice here in Canada by stacking it up against one of its biggest competitors, so we decided to compare the 2016 Honda Accord vs 2016 Kia Optima. Much like the Civic, the Optima was completely redesigned for the 2016 model year, so both it and the Accord are all-new this year.
Advantages of the 2016 Honda Accord
Taking a look at the table above, you can see that the two vehicles are quite similar to one another. But starting from the top, it also becomes clear that the Honda Accord has a bit of an edge, especially in terms of fuel economy. Through city streets like those found here in Edmonton, the Honda Accord utilizes 1.1 l/100km less fuel than the Optima, and on the highway 0.3 l/100km. In the long run, especially if most of your driving will be in the city, you’re going to save quite a bit of cash at the pump.
In terms of power on the other hand, the two sedans are much closer. In fact, they both offer engines that generate 185 horsepower. While the Accord does have a slight boost in pound-feet of torque, it wouldn’t be all that noticeable in a side-by-side comparison on the road. So the playing field is virtually level as far as power is concerned, leaving this decision up to fuel efficiency.
If you’d prefer to save a bit of money on gas through the life of your vehicle, then the 2016 Honda Accord might be the right choice for you. Feel free to give us a call with any questions, and be sure to schedule a test drive right here on our website to come in and try one out for yourself.
