2016 Honda Accord vs 2016 Mazda 6
With only nine vehicles on our lineup, there are plenty of manufacturers that offer a wider selection of vehicles on the market. But the benefit of only offer a few different models is that each one we provide is more memorable, precisely why you’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of the Honda Accord, even though it’s the Honda Civic that has been the best-selling car in the country the past 17 years.
We wanted to see how our popular midsize sedan measures up against one of its many competitors, so we decided to look at it side by side in a comparison pitting the 2016 Honda Accord vs 2016 Mazda 6. The Mazda 6 was introduced in 2002, well over two decades after we saw the first Accord, but it’s still one of its closest competitors in the class.
Advantages of the 2016 Honda Accord
Taking a look at the table above, we can see why. The two vehicles are incredibly similar, with the Accord Sedan only offering one extra horsepower and the Mazda 6 matching its combined fuel efficiency exactly. They might as well be powered by the same engine, because the subtle different in power would be next-to unnoticeable on the road, and you won’t be saving any money at the gas station either.
But where the Honda Accord does pull out in front is in the other two main aspects we generally like to look at: cargo capacity and passenger volume. The advantages aren’t massive, but being able to provide an extra cubic foot of space in the trunk, and an extra 4.5 cu. ft. of space in the cabin for you and your passengers to stretch out in is a pretty big deal.
