2016 Honda Civic vs 2016 Acura ILX
Without a doubt the biggest news coming out of Honda in 2016, if not the entire automotive market in our opinion, was the debut of the all-new, tenth-generation Civic. Featuring a sportier exterior than ever before and tons up new upgraded specs and features, the newest version of Canada’s best-selling passenger vehicle is hotter than ever before. With that in mind, we thought we’d step up the game a bit and see how it measures up against a similar vehicle belonging to the luxury market, by comparing the 2016 Honda Civic vs 2016 Acura ILX.
Acura is actually a subsidiary of Honda, essentially their luxury brand, so the vehicles are more similar than one might have initially imagined. Although the Civic was completely remodeled, the ILX is fairly new as well as 2016 saw its first facelift since being introduced for 2013. While it’s not quite as new as the tenth-gen Civic, it’s fresher than many other compact sedans on the market.
Advantages of the 2016 Honda Civic
It’s a pretty safe assumption when looking at luxury vehicles that they put more focus on power than fuel efficiency, and that is the case here. Right off the bat in our comparison, it becomes obvious that the base model Civic achieves greater highway fuel efficiency by utilizing 0.8 l/100km less gasoline, but that the ILX fires back with an extra 43 horsepower. However, the Civic does offer a more powerful engine that will give it a pretty big boost without losing much in the way of efficiency. Combining that with the fact that the Civic also weighs 343 lbs. less than the ILX, and that horsepower advantage isn’t quite as steep as it first appeared.
The other areas we looked at concern the available space within the vehicle. While cargo capacity might not be as important in a compact sedan as it is in a utility vehicle, having a bigger trunk is still a nice perk – which the Honda delivers by offering a trunk that is 2.8 cu. ft. larger than the Acura. The cabin of the Civic is more spacious as well, offering an extra 11.3 cu. ft. of space for you and your passengers to stretch out and get comfortable in.
