2016 Honda HR-V vs 2016 Hyundai Tucson
The 2016 model year has been filled with exciting remodels and redesigns, but on top of all that the brand-new 2016 Honda HR-V was unveiled. Fitting right into the increasingly-popular subcompact crossover segment, the HR-V has quickly climbed the ranks here in Edmonton. But we wanted to see just how well it measures up to popular crossovers, even ones that belong to slightly larger segments, so we decided to compare the 2016 Honda HR-V vs 2016 Hyundai Tucson.
While HR-V is a brand-new subcompact crossover, the Hyundai Tucson is just a compact crossover that made its debut back in 2000. While they might not technically be considered direct competitors, the Tucson is the smallest crossover on the Hyundai lineup, so we wanted to see how the two vehicles stacked up to one another.
Advantages of the 2016 Honda HR-V
And the results are pretty clear after a glance at the table above, each vehicle has its advantage in one area or another. Starting from the top, the HR-V is obviously the more efficient of the two vehicles. Through city streets like those found throughout Edmonton, the Tucson needs almost 2 full extra litres in the tank for every 100 kilometres driven, and almost 1 full extra litre on the highway. That means the HR-V is going to save you a lot of money at the gas station over time.
But the Tucson fires right back as most less-efficient vehicles do, by offering more power in the form of 23 extra horses. However, the HR-V lessens that advantage due to the fact that it was 423 lbs. less than its rival. That huge weight differential means the HR-V needs less power to do the same kind of things that the Tucson does, therefore lessening that leg up the Hyundai has in power.
