When it comes to midsize sedans, the market is filled with a multitude of different options from a wide array of manufacturers. Obviously, we have our favorite, but there are plenty of other great options to choose from. So we thought we’d let you in on why we feel so confident in our favorite by comparing it against one of those competitors. With that in mind, we decided to pit the 2017 Honda Accord Sedan vs 2017 Kia Optima.
Advantages of the 2017 Honda Accord Sedan
As you can see by glancing up at the table above, the two vehicles are actually extremely comparable to one another, but there are a few differences. We thought we’d detail these differences by analyzing each row starting from the top. So the first thing we looked at was city fuel efficiency, and in that regard the Honda Accord Sedan has a leg up.
When driving through streets like the ones here in Edmonton, the Accord utilizes 0.8 litres less fuel to travel the same 100 kilometres. However, on the highway – as the second row depicts – the Accord Sedan and Kia Optima both achieve 6.9 l/100km, meaning they’re just as efficient as one another. However, the difference in the city rating will translate to some saving at the gas pump.
Highway fuel efficiency isn’t the only area that the Kia Optima is spot on with the Honda Accord Sedan either, as both cars offer 185-horsepower engines in their base trim levels. However, as the final row depicts, the Accord Sedan’s engine is tethered to a continuously variable transmission, which will deliver a much smoother driving experience than the Optima’s 6-speed automatic.
