We’ve talked many times in the past about how the minivan segment has declined over the past decade or more, yet the few remaining stragglers continue to surprise us each and every year. Next year the Honda Odyssey will be completely renovated, and there are rumors of a new Sienna on the horizon as well. Yet even without a cosmetic overhaul or host of new technological upgrades, the Odyssey and Sienna are still impressive in 2017. We thought we’d see how the two competitors honestly stack up to one another by pitting the 2017 Honda Odyssey vs 2017 Toyota Sienna.
Advantages of the 2017 Honda Odyssey
For our comparison, we compiled some of the most notable specifications into the table at the top of the page. With combined fuel efficiency in the first row, the two minivans kicked things off in a dead heat. Both the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna achieve 10.9 l/100km, giving neither vehicle an early advantage. But the second row moved into power, and the Swagger Wagon certainly pulls ahead in this regard. Offering an extra 48 horsepower, the Sienna has quite a bit more pickup, meaning it will likely offer a more enjoyable experience behind the wheel.
Unfortunately for the Odyssey, the Sienna keeps up its advantage in the third row as well, though not by nearly as large a margin. In this row we analyzed cargo capacity behind the back row, and the Swagger Wagon happens to offer an extra 0.7 cubic feet of space. WIthout even reaching a cubic foot, it doesn’t provide that much of an advantage, but it is an advantage nonetheless. However, dropping all of the back seats down swings the advantage back in the Odyssey’s direction in a big way. The Honda Odyssey offers a max cargo capacity of 148.5 cu. ft., which is 61.4 cu. ft. more than the Sienna offers.
So in the event of a trip that you need to cart a lot of stuff along with you, the Odyssey will definitely be the smarter decision. If you think this advantage is enough to get you to consider a 2017 Honda Odyssey of your own, be sure to schedule a test drive right here on our website.
