Although there are now six different Honda Civic models to choose from, only one model stands proudly above the rest as the obvious choice for most impressive. The traditional Sedan and Coupe models are great, as is the new Hatchback, and the sportier Si models. But none of them can hold a candle to the Type R or the hype that surrounds it. They very definition of a hot hatch, North America has been waiting for its own Civic Type R for years, and now it has it. But how does it compare to the most popular pre-existing hot hatch? Let’s find out by pitting the 2018 Honda Civic Type R vs 2018 Ford Focus RS.
Advantages of the 2018 Civic Type R
In the table to the right we’ve taken a look at a few of the most important specifications to consider when shopping for a new vehicle. Fuel efficiency is obviously important regardless of segment, as the less fuel utilizes the more money you’re saving at the pump. That’s what the first row focuses on, and shows that the Civic Type R utilizes 1.3 litres less fuel to travel the same 100-kilometre distance as the Focus RS.
Unfortunately, that advantage does come with a drawback, as the Ford Focus RS does offer superior power in the form of 44 extra horsepower. However, that advantage is diminished a bit when looking at the third row, which shows the Type R weighs just over 300 pounds less than the RS. That means it doesn’t need quite as much power to do the same things.
