Obviously, we love all of the vehicles that are on the Honda lineup, but we’ve got a soft spot for the 2019 Honda HR-V in Edmonton AB. As the subcompact crossover segment began to blow up, the Honda HR-V was right there in the frontlines turning the tide. It might not have been among the first, but it was one of the earliest, and remains one of the strongest entries to the fastest-growing class in recent memory.
In truth, the HR-V might have actually been one of the first subcompact crossovers, before it had a chance to succeed. It was actually first introduced way back in 1999 but was discontinued in 2006 as the segment didn’t seem to take off like Honda Expected. Fast forward a decade, and it turns out Honda was just ahead of the game, and now the HR-V flourishes within a diverse segment filled with stiff competition.
Specs & Features of the 2019 HR-V
For the 2019 model year, the HR-V underwent some pretty substantial upgrades as it received its first mid-generation refresh. With some tweaking to the exterior design, the HR-V is more sophisticated and sportier than its predecessor, while a host of other changes make it an even better option within the segment. One of the biggest of these other changes is the introduction of new trim levels, Sport and Touring, the former of which offers unique design cues to the other trim levels, including 18” wheels, while the latter offers a host of great features to enhance its value.
Much like the 2019 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe, the HR-V also benefits from a redesigned display audio system that features not only a new volume knob, but compatibility for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Finally, Honda Sensing has been made more accessible by making them available and standard on a wider variety of trims.
