The Honda Odyssey minivan began production in 1994 and is now in its fourth generation. Originating in Japan during the country’s 1990s economic crisis, the Odyssey was subjected to severe constraints on its size and overall concept. These restrictions resulted in a smaller minivan being produced, in the Compact MPV class, which was well received in the Japanese domestic market, but was less enjoyed by the North American market. In Europe, the first generation Odyssey was marketed as the Shuttle.
Through the generations, the Odyssey has increased in size with Honda marketing a larger Odyssey in North America in the 2009 model year, but still a smaller Odyssey in Japan and other markets.
The North American fourth generation Odyssey, officially released in 2010 for the 2011 model year, has an extra sleek and modern appearance compared to previous generation models, as well as other minivans, SUVs and concept cars.
