Honda of Canada invests millions in Ontario Manufacturing Plants

Honda of Canada invests millions in Ontario Manufacturing Plants

Since it was announced that Honda Canada would be the global manufacturer of the tenth-generation Honda Civic, the workload at Canadian manufacturing plants has increased dramatically. But now we’ve got confirmation that building cars in our home Ontario plants will be even easier, as Honda of Canada Manufacturing has pledged to invest a whopping $492 million dollars into the Ontario Manufacturing Plants. That’s a ton of money, and will increase the efficiency and quality of creating vehicles right here in our home country.

“Thank you to both the federal and Ontario governments for creating an environment which will allow us to further modernize our manufacturing facilities and make innovative upgrades possible, including building a state-of-the-art paint shop which will reduce the GHG emissions from our paint process by 44%, further reducing our manufacturing carbon footprint in Canada. As a result of these upgrades, HCM will continue to provide thousands of well-paying, high quality jobs in Alliston and throughout Canada.”

So, what is all of that money going towards? The money will be invested into the three Ontario manufacturing plants over the next three years in an effort to both modernize the facilities and reduce the carbon footprint of each. The money isn’t just coming from Honda of Canada either, as both the Government of Canada and Government of Ontario will be providing up to $41.8 million in the form of conditional grants. That makes up 17% of the total investment.

As a result, the facilities will be able to delve deeper into research and development, enhancing the vehicles they currently make while also discovering and advancing the future of manufacturing technologies. Not only will this enhance Honda vehicles, but will also help contribute to the Canadian economy, especially in terms of the auto industry, as 100,000 of the 400,000 Honda Civic and Honda CR-V models built in Ontario are sold in Canada.
