2020 Honda HR-V for sale in Edmonton, AB
Honda decided to reintroduce the Insight nameplate a couple of years ago and what a great decision it's turned out to be. There's no confusion about different powertrains and charging/refueling options for buyers to wrestle with. The 2021 Honda Insight is an extremely stylish compact car powered by a hybrid powertrain that offers fantastic fuel economy along with a spacious interior, impressive safety ratings and great value for money.
You don’t have to concern yourself with a range of different engine options with the 2021 Honda Insight. It's not available in an array of gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions that can be confusing with some rival nameplates. Instead, Honda has gone down a nice and straightforward route with just a single gas/electric hybrid powertrain.
Under the hood of the latest Insight is a 107 horsepower 1.5-litre inline-four gas engine that's coupled with a 129 horsepower electric motor to deliver a combined 151 horsepower. The power is sent to the front wheels through an Electric-Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT), and most of the time that power comes from the electric motor as the gas engine is mostly used to generate electricity.
As you would probably imagine, the 2021 Insight can get you down highway 2 to Red Deer using less gas than just about any other vehicle in today's market. The Insight is rated at an incredible 4.6 L/100km in the city, 5.3 L/100km on the highway and 4.9 L/100km combined, which is mighty impressive by anyone's measure.
There may only be two trim levels of Hybrid and Hybrid Touring in the 2021 Insight lineup, but even a quick look at what you get for relatively little money will make it very clear that the Insight is a bit of a steal in today's new car market.
Both versions have the same powertrain, chassis, passive safety features, active safety features and driver-assist technology, and both come standard with a set of 17-inch alloy wheels. Both trims also come standard with the likes of active noise cancellation, a 7-inch colour TFT meter display with Driver Information Interface, Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS), driver attention monitor, heated front seats and dual-zone climate control.
Additional features of the Insight Touring trim include the Display Audio System with Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System and bilingual Voice Recognition, the HomeLink remote system, heated rear seats, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, perforated leather-trimmed seats, a premium audio system and an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.
About as safe as a car gets today
If you decide to look for something negative in the Insight's safety report card, then good luck to you. The 2021 Insight is one of only a handful of cars on the road today that aces every one of the tests set by both the IIHS and the NHTSA. Inevitably then, the Insight gets a five-star rating from the NHTSA and that coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
Standard active safety features include ABS brakes, auto high beam headlights, brake-assist, Collision Mitigation Braking System, electronic brake-force distribution, forward collision warning, hill start assist, Road Departure Mitigation system, traffic sign recognition, Vehicle Stability Assist and more.
Honda doesn’t stop there though as there's also a raft of driver-assist technology to help keep you safe too. The standard tech includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, a Blind Spot Information system and a Rear Cross Traffic Monitor system. Of course, all of that is on top of all the usual passive safety kit we take for granted these days.
