Even more impressive
The CR-V has been one of the biggest-selling SUVs worldwide for many years, so an all-new sixth generation is something to think about for anyone shopping for a new compact crossover in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, or anywhere else for that matter. The all-new 2023 Honda CR-V is now even more spacious inside than it was, the standard equipment levels are even more impressive, and the new look brings this important model right up to date.
The CR-V has never gone down a safe, homogenous route with its exterior styling, and the 2023 Honda CR-V is no exception. You'll immediately notice the CR-V has grown in size, although the extra 2.7-inches added to the length doesn't sound like much until you get close enough to see the result. If anything, the all-new 2023 CR-V looks more like an SUV and less like a tall wagon than some rival compact crossovers with a less-tapered and more squared-off rear. You'll recognize plenty of styling cues from other recent Honda redesigns, and there's a noticeable distinction between different trim levels. And the extra length is even more noticeable on the inside of the new CR-V, where the rear-seat legroom and headroom are even more generous than in the previous model.
A confident performer
It would be relatively easy to drop a big gas engine from another model into the CR-V, but that's not what this model is about. You don't get to be as successful as the CR-V without knowing your market, and the market for the CR-V isn't about screeching tyres and face-melting quart-mile times. The gas-powered versions of the 2023 Honda CR-V have the familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four under the hood. This unit develops 190 horsepower and 179 lb.-ft. of torque, which goes to the front or all four wheels through a CVT transmission. An updated Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System is standard with EX-L and Sport versions of the new CR-V, improving traction management in slippery conditions, such as snow and mud. And it can now send up to 50 percent of the powerplant's torque to the rear wheels. The base model is a standard front-wheel drive model, but AWD is available.
Enhanced active and passive safety tech
The standard specification of the 2023 Honda CR-V is extremely impressive, especially where the latest safety and driver-assist technology is concerned. Whichever version of the new CR-V you choose to go with, you won't find any safety features on the options list. And that's because every safety feature you could ask for at this level is standard across the range, including Traffic Jam Assist, Low-Speed Braking Control & Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, and Lane Keeping Assist. All models also get a new wide-angle camera and millimetre-wave radar system, with the camera featuring a 90-degree field of view and a 120-degree field of view for the radar. This expanded angle improves collision prevention performance thanks to its enhanced ability to identify objects and features, such as vehicles, pedestrians, white lines, curbs, cyclists, motorcycles, and road signs.
