After Evacuating the Wildfire to Edmonton AB

After Evacuating the Wildfire to Edmonton AB

Things to know after the Fort McMurray AB Wildfire

Tragedy struck last night in the form of a terrible wildfire that quickly spread through Fort McMurray, Alberta, but the surrounding area including Edmonton has reached out to lend a helping hand in many different ways. We want to help in any way that we can as well, so we’ve compiled a list containing just a few things to know after the Fort McMurray AB wildfire here on our blog. You can always give us a call with any additional questions and we’ll help you to the best of our abilities, but following the information below is the best way to stay on top of things.

Edmonton Evacuation Shelter

If you and your family fled Fort McMurray in the direction of Edmonton, and you’re still looking for someplace to go, evacuees are still being directed to Hall A in the Northlands Expo Center at 7515 118 Avenue NW in Edmonton. There will be plenty of on-site staff to offer assistance in the wake of this terrible event, and you will have a roof over your head for as long as you need.

Find Missing Persons

As frightening as it sounds, there is a good chance that some people might have been separated from family and loved ones, but the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has sprung into action to help remedy that situation. They have created a hotline – reachable at 1-888-350-6070 – for assistance in tracking down missing persons. If you can’t find someone give it a call, but remain patient as the line will likely see a lot of traffic. In the event of an emergency, of course call 911 instead.

Stay Up to Date

Finally you want to remain up to date on all information in regards to the Fort McMurray Wildfire and the relief effort, so be sure to tune into radio, television and social media for any Alberta Emergency Alert updates.
