Automotive Spring Cleaning Checklist

While it’s not essential, in our opinion it’s important to start on the inside and work your way out just in case any dirt or grime makes its way outside. So follow the list below in order, and your car should come out good as new!

  • Start by first vacuuming the whole interior: your upholstery, your carpet, your floor mats. If you have all-weather mats, take them out so you can give them a hose down as well. Once you’ve vacuumed, use a damp towel or a special product to actually wash the seats.
  • Now you’ll want to move onto the console. Make sure that you’re voiding getting anything electrical wet, but make sure to wipe everything down as best you can. That means the dashboard, the center console, the cup holders, everything!
  • Don’t forget to organize all of your compartments. Get rid of anything you don’t need or might have forgotten bout, and only keep the things you know you need. It’s like a fresh start for the season!
  • Now you’ll want to clean the windows, inside and out. Use regular window cleaner and a microfiber cloth, and then shine them with a dry towel so you don’t get streaks or blotches. Don’t forget about your mirrors!
  • Moving onto the trunk, just do any of the above steps that apply! Vacuum, organize and then wash if it’s dirty enough.
  • Now it’s time to move onto the exterior. Give it a good cleaning using a soft cloth and any type of mild detergent or car-specific soap. You can get all kinds of tools to make this easier, but it isn’t required.
  • Give the wheels special attention. Scrub your tires, the wheel wells and the actual wheels. You can even get a special product dedicated to shining your wheels. This would be the perfect time to tighten your lug nuts and check tire pressure as well.
  • Don’t forget to open the hood and get rid of any leaves or debris that might be stuck in hard-to-escape locations. Don’t try to clean the engine bay yourself, have someone clean that professionally to avoid damaging anything.
  • Now you can wax it, but make sure you’ve got a place to park it that isn’t in direct sunlight, because that can create inverse effects. Any type of car wax will give you specific directions, so just follow those.
  • Lastly, replace your wipers! These harsh Canadian winters will have likely damaged the blades, so it’s a good idea to just grab a new pair and change them out.

Hopefully this check lists helps you keep your car clean. You don’t have to get this detailed every time you wash your car, but after a heavy winter it’s a good idea and time to go ahead and do it! Of course, it’s also the perfect time to look into a new car, so don’t forget to check our inventory if you’re in the market.
