How's This Work? Bluetooth

What is Bluetooth Connectivity?

For this week’s How’s This Work, we thought we’d look at a feature that has become pretty commonplace across the market. Most people probably know what it is, maybe even what it does, but it’s still a fairly new technology that not everyone understands how to work: Bluetooth Connectivity. Numerous vehicles from a wide array of manufacturers are now Bluetooth compatible, but what exactly does that mean? We’ll dive into the basics and make sure you know exactly how to use Bluetooth connectivity to your advantage.

How does Bluetooth Connectivity work?

Let’s start with a true definition of what exactly Bluetooth connectivity is. At its base, it’s a wireless technology that permits two different electronic devices to communicate with one another as long as their compatible. For instance, in its early stages, Bluetooth would allow you to wear an earpiece that enabled you to make hands-free phone calls, without having a chord between your phone and your ear.

But today, Bluetooth allows your smart device – like a phone or tablet – to communicate with your vehicle’s display audio system, thus enabling you to play music from your phone through your car speakers without needing a USB or auxiliary cable.  Additionally, as the technology increases, it allows your phone to communicate much more than simply music to your vehicle. You can make phone calls, access your contacts and much more.

So essentially, it makes utilizing your phone and staying connected to the outside world from the driver’s seat easier and more accessible than ever before. All you need is a Bluetooth connection and a compatible smartphone or other device. The video below, from, gives you a few tips about what to look for in terms of Bluetooth connectivity when shopping for a new car.
