What is Lane Departure Warning?

What is Lane Departure Warning?

This day and age, no matter what kind of vehicle you get, it is bound to be filed to the brim with different technologies and features that you don’t know the first thing about. That is the nature of technology. But we’re here to help, by explaining these features and technologies as best we can, to better help you understand and use them, much like we did last week with Blind Spot Monitor. This week we’re going to look at another basic, driver-assistive safety feature by explaining how Lane Departure Warning works.

How does the LDW system work?

Lane Departure Warning, available in the Honda Sensing safety suite, was created in an effort to prevent drifting out of your lane and into someone else’s, or onto the shoulder. We certainly don’t suggest you drive with even the smallest inkling that you might get tired behind the wheel, but this program will help in those instances where you might get drowsy, or might simply be paying attention to something else.

Using cameras and sensors, LDW will look for lane lines on either side of the vehicle. Assuming it finds them, it will send a signal to alert you – both audibly and visually through a blinking light – if you happen to drift over the line on either side of the vehicle. As always, these programs are not a substitute for your judgement when behind the wheel. Staying attentive and alert is the best way to stay safe on the road. Lane Departure Warning is simply there as added backup if something were to happen.

We hope that this helps you understand the program better and how exactly to utilize Lane Departure Warning. If you still have questions, don’t be afraid to give us a call. We can also tell you which Honda vehicles we carry with LDW installed, so you can feel free to contact us about that as well. If you’re still unsure how the program works, you can watch the video below to get an even better idea of how Lane Departure Warning works.
