How's This Work? LATCH

What is the LATCH system?

With the summer season upon us, there is a very good chance you might be hitting the road with the whole family soon, because this is the season of vacations and road trips. But if you’re packing the kids into the backseat, you want to make sure they’re going to be safe the whole time, no matter how long you’re planning on being in the car. So with that in mind, for this week’s How’s This Work, we thought we’d take a look at what exactly the LATCH system is, so that you can insure your children’s safety.

How does the LATCH system work?

Considering there is a very real estimation out there that 3 out of every 4 car seats are not installed properly, it is very important that you know how correctly strap your seat in so that you can safely strap your kid in. LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, and it is a system that was designed to make installing car seats easier.

The LATCH system is now found in a ton of different brands from a multitude of manufacturers, as well as almost all child safety seats made since September 1st, 2002. It is made up of a system of straps and hooks that are built right into both the car seat and the actual seat of the car. With LATCH, rather than draping seatbelts through your car seat the LATCH anchors and other attachments will secure your safety seat.

I’m sure we don’t have to tell you, but it is very important that you make sure your child is strapped into the vehicle safely. The LATCH system is a huge step towards making that happen, so try to make sure you’re utilizing it properly. If you want a more visual explanation of LATCH and how it works, be sure to watch the video below. Feel free to give us a call with any questions, including which Honda vehicles have the LATCH system installed.
